Tadelakt Veneziano

Tadelakt Veneziano

When you use Tadelakt Veneziano, you won’t need to worry about repainting walls or ceilings every few years, nails popping through the paint, tape peeling off, or sections of walls under a window being damaged by a leak.

With Tadelakt Veneziano, since the color is part of the blend, the walls do not fade as some paints may. Unlike other plaster products, the walls are easy to repair if chipping occurs at corners, and stains on the face of the walls can easily be wiped or sanded down.

Tadelakt Veneziano is a simple solution to many annoying factors regarding the walls at your home.

“I prefer to be away enjoying a vacation, not painting walls at home.”

THE MANY BENEFITS

Tadelakt Veneziano combines traditional products used in castles and mansions for centuries to bring beauty and durability to the walls, unlike paints that need to be constantly replaced.

Tadelakt Veneziano includes blending lime and cement with new technological developments, such as modern polymers, marble dust, and other materials, making it more durable and water-resistant than other plaster products.

Combined, these proprietary products can offer beauty all around. They can be applied over existing painted walls, Durock or cement boards, old stone walls, brick surfaces, walls, and ceilings in high moisture areas such as bathrooms or kitchens. Once the wall areas have been appropriately prepared, Tadelakt Veneziano can be applied thick or thin; one coat application or several coats can be used on top of each other to build up the thickness of a wall if necessary. It requires very little maintenance.

This product is like a modern fresco painting that can elevate the quality of any space or room. Because of its thickness availability, it is perfect for high-traffic areas such as staircases and hallways. Since it does not require year-round controlled temperatures to last for decades, it is ideal for summer homes, pool houses, outdoor kitchens, hotel lobbies, hotel rooms, churches, or schools; the uses are unlimited.

THE ORIGINAL MOROCCAN TADELAKT

Tadelakt is a traditional Moroccan smooth plaster finish coat for walls and ceilings.

It is a lime-based product traditionally used in steam baths and riads (Moroccan and Andalusian interior gardens and courtyards associated with house and palace architecture); it is typically applied in seven to ten coats to achieve the proper finish coat.
As described by them, Tadelakt takes its inspiration colors from the stunning natural greenish-yellow tones from the wild, the burnish browns and yellows ochres of the desert, the lively and brilliant red tones from colors being worn in Marrakech, the calm and breezy cobalt blues of the Essaouira coast, and the glowing saffron yellows reflecting the spices being sold in the market place.

TADELAKT VENEZIANO OF THE AMERICAS

Over the last 40 years, I’ve enjoyed working on incredible projects throughout Long Island, especially in The Hamptons and New York City. One of my clients was Mica Ertegun, an internationally renowned interior designer who used my products on the walls of her home in Southampton in 1990.

This project included applying the Tadelakt Veneziano I created for her home to all the walls and ceilings of the living room, dining room, kitchen, main hallways, and staircases. Today, 34 years later, it still stands as if it was done yesterday.

As seen on the front page of HG House and Gardens American Dream Houses, April 1993 issue, this was a big break for my Tadelakt Veneziano line then. Along with its good qualities and benefits, it is still growing solid today.

ORIGINS OF TADELAKT VENEZIANO

Growing up in Costa Rica, during school breaks and working in construction, I learned how the local masons used different types of cement, lime, and pigments over concrete floors and sometimes walls to create different finishes. They also waxed and polished the floors to achieve smooth textures and to give them a sealer.

When I came to the U.S., I saw how plaster was used on the walls of houses, and then the walls would be painted afterward; that got me thinking.

So, I asked myself, why not make a plaster with a color in the mixture and skip the painting altogether?

I understood I needed to create something durable.

After researching plasters in the US and learning about their qualities, I realized that most applications on interior walls require warm temperatures and no moisture for them to last. So, looking for other options, I arrived at the marble dusting inside pools technique. Marble dusting was an excellent option, as it constantly dampens and freezes in the winter, and lasted for many years.

With that knowledge in mind, I developed a plaster finish that can resist moisture and low temperatures. The coloring was another challenge. Once I learned how to control consistency in the colors and how to match colors, Tadelakt Veneziano was born in New York, and the rest is history.

PROJECTS

The list of projects where this product has been used is extensive, including some unique and very private projects. Still, you can visit some, including the “Gramercy Tavern- New York” in New York City and the “Long-House Reserve” in East Hampton, also known as the Jack Lenor Larsen Hamptons residence.

Since I established my company in the Hamptons over 40 years ago and created my line of Tadelak Veneziano, I’ve had the opportunity to meet and work on projects for clients such as Steven Spielberg, Kalvin Klein, Susan Lucci, Donna Karen, David Salle (an American Postmodern painter) home and studio in East Hampton, and many more that have been part of the Hamptons community over the years.

THE OLD WORLD AND THE NEW

(Tadelakt Veneziano is not the only line we offer.)

Apart from the Tadelakt Veneziano line, we have been part of some other amazing projects where unique products had to be custom-created to achieve or match some old stones or walls for some special projects such as the restoration and the new additions in 2020 of the “CHATEAU DES THONS” In Upper Brookville, NY, (moved from France to Long Island in 1927-28).

We have also worked on some brownstone restoration projects in Manhattan, a restoration project in Northern Michigan, a project in Morris Town, NJ, and the beloved Hamptons landmark “Stargazer” sculpture in Manorville, NY, where we were part of the original project in 1990, and the new restoration in 2022.

Another project where a new product had to be created to match some old products used 110 years ago is at “THE MANOR HOUSE” in Oyster Bay Cove, NY.
